I am on a mission to create stories for children (age 0-99) that cultivate empathy and belonging thru humor. I'm also dedicated to creating community by supporting and celebrating writers on their journey to publication.

I grew up driving tractors and shooting hoops on a farm in Indiana. I picked up a camera in high school, then went on to work as a photojournalist in newsrooms across the country, documenting everything from the Dalai Lama to the Weinermobile. Bitten by a travel bug, I moved to Beijing where I taught English to 500 kindergartners. I now live in Seattle with my husband, two boys and an elderly cat. When I’m not writing or dealing with one of the above, you can find me eating ice cream, making strawberry jam or searching for the best horchata in the city. Three fun facts about me: I wish I could speak to animals—I know the alphabet backwards—My parents got my name from a tombstone.
I've been a storyteller my entire life. From oral family stories as a kid, to visual storytelling during my photojournalism career and now to writing stories for children. I am a member of SCBWI and 12x12, a graduate of the Children's Book Academy and a yearly participant in Storystorm. In 2019 I was named a #PBChat Mentee and worked with author Jill Esbaum.
